Dave England Award

The Dave England Award recognizes individual leadership and excellence in information technology and communication in state agencies and universities. Named in honor of Dave England, the award recognizes those who follow his example in providing outstanding information services leadership not only to a single agency or institution of higher education, but to TASSCC and others in the state over many years.

Dave England was a charismatic leader in the field of state government Information Technology. He worked at the Governor's Office, DHS, and Texas A&M during a long career that spanned more than two decades. Dave had an incredible ability to envision the future - he was truly one of the first to see that "enterprise" computing would combine data across systems and between agencies to make government systems appear seamless to the users. Dave was a risk taker, an inspirational leader, and a champion of intergovernmental cooperation and collaboration.

Even though Dave was full of ideas himself, he was always willing to learn from others, and he enthusiastically encouraged his staff and peers to express their ideas.  Dave was also an extraordinary mentor; many people who are now CIO's of state agencies and in other leadership positions once worked for him. He vigorously promoted the interests of women in government and placed them in positions in his organizations where they could learn valuable leadership skills.

If you are aware of an outstanding visionary and leader who deserves this award, we encourage you to nominate them. Click here to submit your nomination today.
